The Women’s Asian Cup kicked off in Amman on 6 April 2018.
The locals turned out in force making the opening ceremony and game a spectacle.
The tournament was held across 2 stadiums and finished on 20 April.
The Football
The level of football was mixed with a range of Asian Confederate teams competing. This did make for some good scoring opportunities in the group matches.
Favourites Australia had a near upset in the semi-finals with Thailand pushing them to penalties.
In the Final Japan played a strong game against Australia’s Matildas to win the Cup 1 -0.
Both teams qualified for the 2019 WWC.
The Fans
The event attracted limited supporter crowds.
But the small number made a big noise!
The Australian Green and Gold Army rose to the occasion with huge support for the Matildas as well as great side visits across Jordan.
The Food
It’s always a feast in Jordan. with lots of variety and choice.
While respecting local customs about alcohol, there were wine bars in Amman and venues that allowed the Green and Gold Army to host some great pre match events.
The Travel and Tourism
Jordan is just …. mind boggling …
Visit Petra, or catch a roman ruin or 2 at Jerash.
Spend a few nights in the desert at Wadi Rum or go for a swim at Aqaba.
Maybe a dead sea mud experience is for you.
There is no place like Jordan, and no people more friendly and welcoming.
